Discovery

Before any tool: find out where the time actually goes.

A short structured form for the people doing the work, combined with real data from your systems. It is not a performance review, and no automation is introduced off the back of it without a person reviewing every result.

What the form asks

Answered for a person's own day-to-day role. There are no wrong answers, and detail helps.

  • The three tasks you repeat most each week — and how long each takes
  • The most manual or frustrating part of your work, and why
  • Where you wait on others — hand-offs, approvals, information
  • Reports or data you pull, reformat or reconcile by hand
  • Side spreadsheets you keep outside the main system — and why they exist
  • The one task you would automate tomorrow, and what it would free you to do
  • How often manual errors happen in your area, and what kind
  • Data sensitivity — anything that must not leave the company or go into an outside tool
  • Anything else: ideas, concerns, or context we should know

What comes out of it

A friction map

Where time is lost, where work waits, and which of those are actually connected to each other.

An ROI-ranked priority list

Scored by time saved, how many people it reaches, difficulty and who would own it — so the first automation is chosen on evidence rather than enthusiasm.

A go / no-go

Including the outcome where the honest answer is that a process needs fixing or a decision, not automating.
